Since its inception over 40 years ago, the Ecumenical Center has
served as a focal point of spiritual discovery for the countless UWGB students,
faculty and staff and members of the local communities. Many have shared their
talents, explored their faiths and celebrated the hallmarks of their lives with
us.
This year, we embark
upon a new journey – one that will help us rededicate ourselves to remembering
our past, celebrating our present and believing in our collective future. We
will share our deepest gratitude with those who have, in big and small ways,
contributed to our history, and we will celebrate this very moment recognizing
the immense value we derive from being a part of something larger than
ourselves. More importantly, however, we will commit to believe in our
collective future—the future resembled in our students, the proprietors of our
respective religions and the leaders of tomorrow.
Like most nonprofit organizations, we have journeyed through
various stages of development, experiencing both the joys and setbacks of
living our mission. Along the way, we have realized the gift of
forgiveness and the experiences needed to help us grow, taking us forward to a
better place. Now, 40 years after the Center’s founding, our mission once
again calls us to move forward, because our young people and community need us
today, perhaps more than ever.
Today, the
Ecumenical Center is in a unique position to grow into a vibrant spiritual
community, ready to celebrate another joyful day. Men and women from all walks
of life continue to come to the Center to celebrate their commitment to each
other. Young people will come to us this summer to learn to love life, to live
life, and to laugh. Our staff is busy planning for the fall when a new group of
students will arrive, stepping out of their comfort zones and joining us in a
journey to find faith, each other, and discover what they will stand for.
