In 1991, The Ecumenical Center Foundation approved the establishment of The Rev. Richard Mauthe Scholarship to recognize his nearly 30 years of work in campus ministry.  Fr. Mauthe retired from campus ministry in September 1991 and resumed his parish pastoral work.

The scholarship is to be given to a deserving student who has exemplified, through action and person, the mission of the Ecumenical Center at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.  The Scholarship may be awarded annually in an amount to be determined by the Foundation Board.  For 2010/2011 academic year, the award will be $1,000.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP:

The student must be enrolled as a full time student at UWGB and shall have at least sophomore standing at the time of application for the scholarship.

The student shall have evidenced a faith dimension and demonstrated involvement in activities which promote social justice, interfaith understanding and the pursuit of personal spirituality. A personal statement no longer than two double spaced pages (12 point font and 1” margins) should reflect these qualities.

The student shall have demonstrated academic success as evidenced by a minimum 3.0 GPA.

The student shall provide two supporting references: One reference from a person familiar with the student’s spiritual or faith development; and the second of applicant’s choice.

The student should be willing to commit to doing 100 hours of service at The Ecumenical Center-UWGB during the academic year that the scholarship was awarded for.

APPLICATIONAND SELECTION:

Resume, personal statement,and 2 letters of reference must be submitted by May 31, 2010 toThe Ecumenical Center.

The scholarship shall be awarded in the summer for use during the following academic year. 

In addition to the application forms, the selection committee may request additional information, including an interview if they wish.

While financial need may be considered by the selection committee, need is not a prerequisite for scholarship eligibility. Student is, however, welcome to share any legitimate need in their application.

The scholarship recipient will be announced by July 1, 2010.
